In observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the
First Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk kicks off October 17, at Mission
Regional Medical Center.
The 5 K Walk/Run represents the first such event in Hidalgo County that
advances the importance of awareness and early detection of breast cancer,
while raising vital funds for education and the treatment of breast cancer.
“Hosting this Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness represents a community
project that has been long overdue. Members of the community indeed our
own medical staff asked time and time again when we would do a walk for
the women in our lives. So this is the year,” said Lori Garza, Breast
The theme for this year's walk is “Mission Pink" with proceeds
going to the Breast Care Care Center at Mission Regional Medical Center
and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
